Hero's Journey Comparison
Luke Skywalker from Star Wars IV and Doug from Blue Diamond were both called to an adventure. Luke was called to his adventure by Obiwan to travek with him and learn the ways of the Force. Luke made many excuses why he can't go all of which were based off of what his uncle had told him his whole life. Obiwan eventually convinces him and their quest begins. This shows how Luke began his quest to learn the Force and how the Star Wars series began. In Blue Diamond Doug is called to an advernture by his friend, Quinn. While Doun was studing for school, Quinn walks in and makes himself at home. Quinn then convinces Doug to take a break and go out for a bite. This was a lie and they end up driving to Las Vegas. Doug's adventure starts as soon as he relunctently agrees to "take a break."
In Blue Diamond and Star Wars IV both the hero's journeys involve a sacrifice, either by the hero's partner or the hero himself. In Star Wars this is deminstated when Obiwan allows Darth Vadar to finish him in order for Luke and company to escape the Death Star. Obiwan sacrificed himself so Luke could continue on the quest. In Blue Diamond, on the other hand, the hero himself makes a sacrifice in order to continue the quest. Doug gave up the two hundered dollars he won in order to help someone out along with his troubled friend. Doug sacrificed his money to continue the quest along with help somone in need along the way.
While Blue Diamon and Star Wars IV have many hero's journey simularities they also have many differences. Star Wars involves a supernatural guide, Obiwan, dying or even sacrificing himself to further the quest. Blue Diamond does not involve a supernatural guide that helps the hero at all. The hero however, appears to be a guide himself. He helps and guides his friend past his troubles.
